Hiking Montana
I love hiking in Montana. I don't know if it is because of the mountains, the streams or the wildlife that you sometimes see but it is just the anticipation of the next discovery around the corner. The clean air just reinvigorates me when I am out breathing and going up a trail.
Bozeman/Big Sky Hiking
I love the Bozeman/Big Sky area. There are so many trails to choose from and they come in all levels of difficulty and views. One can be to a Mountain Lake like Lava Lake halfway between Bozeman and Big Sky. Some strenuous parts but not too bad and you can take your time. Another easier trail is Ousel Falls right in Big Sky. The name of course tells you what you are going to see and there are lots of them.
Hiking Health
Hiking is so healthy for you. The average 140 lb person burns 13.2 calories per minute. Of course the number is going to vary depending on difficulty of trail, etc...but that is a lot of calories in a short amount of time.Hiking Needs
If you are thinking of coming to Montana make sure and bring good hiking boots, a water bottle and try looking up some trails that will be in your area. There are thousands of free trails through public land at all levels of difficulty. I would always encourage you to hike with at least one partner and on most occasions you need to bring bear spray. Bear spray will cost you @ $50 and you will likely never use it but it is a good idea to carry in bear country. Better safe than sorry.
Hiking Resources
There is a good section on Hiking in Montana on VisitMT website that I would recommend you take a look at and I would also visit Montanatrails.org for useful information.
Hiking Story
For those that like to watch someone else do the hiking for you and the adventures some people go through here is a nice SOLO journey! This was a hike through the Crazy's that this guy did. I always find it interesting to discover why people choose to take the long solitary hikes. Sometimes it is an event in their life. A new start to a new beginning. Sometimes they are at a crossroads of a big decision they need to make and they need to get away from their daily lives. Whatever the reason they always seem to come out of the journey a different person.
I hope you enjoyed this post about Montana hiking on Hiking Healthy!
